Venue Spotlight: The Elm Estate

For those who don’t already know, the historic Chism family house at the end of West Second Street is experiencing the #RenoRenaissance in a BIG way. And we could not be more excited!

Formerly a wedding venue, a succession of beauty salons, and – of course – a home the Chisms lived in [the Chism family lived in the house from the 1890s until the early 2000s]; this revitalization will bring about a new site for weddings, corporate events, dinner parties, and everything in between.

In addition to transforming the old house into a luxurious, modern event space, the owners are also building a large reception hall just steps away from the house. Although the reception building was not yet finished when we toured, it will be able to accommodate around 300 people.

When it opens this spring, the renamed Elm Estate, will encompass roughly 6,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space on 1.5 acres along the Truckee River – including a bed-and-breakfast and a game room!

Here are a few renderings of what the Elm Estate will look like when it is finished:

Prior to said renovations, the Chism House had separated rooms, traditional brick and wood accents, older wood floors and wallpapers –features you would typically see in an older building.

Now, the Elm Estate is absolutely gorgeous. Many of the rooms have been combined to create an open floor plan feel, a magnificent new kitchen and a wrap-around deck have also been added to the house. What was previously the garage will be converted into a groom’s quarters plus game room as well as a food prep area for caterers. New landscaping outside will include beautiful new greenery and a rebuilt koi pond.

We are thrilled it’s finally almost done because we cannot wait to be part of the incredible events that are sure to take place at the Elm Estate!
