Tips & Tricks to Enjoy Reno Events like a Local

The snow has finally (well, maybe!) stopped falling and graduation announcements are piling up, which can only mean one thing… Summer is just around the corner! From festivals to concerts and everything in between, our staff cannot wait to attend some of Reno’s most popular summer events. As event pros we always attend an event with the mindset of a planner by observing the best (and challenging) parts of the event (we just can't help it!). We wanted to share with you our secret tips and tricks for what we consider the top five best summer events to attend in the Biggest Little City!

Reno Rodeo
June 14 – 23, 2018

Grab your boots and saddle up for the “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West!” With 10 jam-packed days full of bull ridin’, team ropin’, mutton bustin’ and much more, this is one Reno event you simply cannot miss. Whether you're heading down with your family or best gal pals there’s something for everyone!

Our Tip: Get there early! Lines to get into the stadium start to get extremely long about 30-45 minutes before everything starts. We suggest getting there about an hour or so early to avoid the major crowds and lines. Getting there early means you’ll get a great parking spot, you’ll get your 21+ drink wristband faster and you’ll get to your seat before anyone else! If you’re like us and love the after-party as much as the main show, make sure you leave the arena a little early too! The line for the Jack Daniels tent looks like a mid-summer afternoon at a Disneyland line ride as soon as the last bull rider gets his scores. Get into the tents early because you won’t want to miss a little two-step with the cutest cowboy, right? Insider tip: If you have a group of pals, get tickets to the Branding Room for an exclusive start to your night! Branding Room Information HERE

June 30 – July 31, 2018

Artown is one of our favorite events to attend throughout the month of July. Free events all over town make this one of the most inclusive events of the year. We are thrilled to get involved in the action by adding an extra Red Carpet touch to this year’s must-attend Artown event, At The Illusionists Table. Flying in from Scotland, renowned mentalist Scott Silven will wow guests with an immersive theater performance at Liberty Food and Wine exchange all while your tastebuds are enjoying the culinary awesomeness of Mark Estee.

Our Tip: GET YOUR TICKETS NOW! With just 8 total performances and only 24 lucky guests able attend each, you know these tickets will go quickly. Additionally, don’t forget to grab a copy of your own Artown Little Book. Inside you’ll find a list of EVERY event happening for the entire month. Plan out what events you and your squad want to attend and get your tickets early so you don’t miss out!

Hot August Nights
August 3 – 12, 2018

Rev up your engines and roll on over to one of Reno’s most successful events! For over 30 years, folks from all over the country have traveled to the Biggest Little City to show off their classic cars and appreciate the artful restoration of other's. With over 14 different locations, Reno is truly busting at the seams with classic cars and the people who love them!

Our Tip: Sit downtown for the cruises! Our favorite local spot to sit and watch the car cruises is about 50 feet from either side of the infamous Reno Arch. It is the perfect photo-op for you to snap some pics of your favorite cars with an archful background. Make sure you bring your lawn chairs, sun hat, and of course a cooler full of your favorite drinks to sip on as you watch the parade of classic cars. After the cruise make sure you stop to get an original Awful Awful Burger in the Little Nugget Casino diner. It’s definitely one of the best burgers you’ll get in town, you won’t be disappointed, we promise!

The Great Reno Balloon Race
September 7 – 9, 2018

3…2…1… GLOW! Or rather GO to The Great Reno Balloon Race as your final event to round out a summer of fun. Considered to be one of the “Best Special Events in Reno,” this is the perfect place to take your family for a sight unlike any other. For only 3 days, over 100 balloons take flight in the early morning and cascade over our beautiful Biggest Little City. Reno locals and out-of-state guests combined gather at Rancho San Rafael Park before the sun rises to see this renowned community tradition.

Our Tip: Bundle up and bring a flash light! Since the highlight of the show happens before/while the sun is coming up it is always colder than you expect. Bundle you and your family up in layers so as the sun begins to rise you can take off your layers so you’re not stuck in a winter coat all day! Don’t forget your flashlight to help get yourself around the dark park. After the show ends, grab your Brunch Bunch and head to get breakfast, you’ll miss the morning crowd and still get your mimosa!
